WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – “We are conducting our June 7 meeting as an introductory session with the existing team at Navajo Housing Authority,” stated the newly appointed NHA Board. “Since the new Board of Commissioners were placed nine business days ago we have been getting up to speed with current NHA management with document requests.”

Accordingly, this first gathering is an introductory session between new board members and the NHA team. “We will get up to speed on internal issues like board policies and procedures and outstanding items that require immediate decision from the new Board of Commissioners,” said the NHA Board. “No official decisions will be made at this first meeting. It is an introductory, meet-n-greet with new board and management team.”

The first official board meeting will be held on June 10 and the first act of business will be the election of Board officers at which time the Board will address official business. NHA’s fourth Board member is expected to be confirmed by June 9 at which point the Board will be prepared to fully address the immediate business needs of NHA.

On June 1, the Navajo Nation Office of the President and Vice President and the Office of the Speaker issued a joint press release in response to a report issued by Senator McCain. The joint press release stressed the need for transparency. “We are committed to complete transparency moving forward and will work carefully with the NHA team, the Navajo government and the public,” said the Board. “The board is also open to sit with the local press and NHA CEO Aneva Yazzie at a press conference after the first official meeting where NHA officials can answer any and all questions that media may have.”
