WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – Today, Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye signed legislation #402-16 (402). The intent of 402 is to reduce the number of the Board of Commissioners for the Navajo Housing Authority (NHA) from eight to five and to increase the qualifications for the board. New members will be required to have professional qualifications and credentials in the fields of housing, architecture, business, development and contracting.
The current Board Members will stay in place over the next 120 days while the five positions are advertised and applicants are vetted by the Nomination Committee. The Nomination Committee consists of the Speaker, an RDC appointee, and the President. The five members who are nominated will then be appointed by the Nabik’iyati’ Committee before taking their new positions. During the transition, NHA vows to continue to deliver on the important mission of providing affordable housing to the Navajo Nation.
