WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. – On May 6, Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye signed legislation 145-17. The purpose of the legislation was to amend the effective date of a previous legislation (402-16) from effective in ‘120 days’ to ‘immediately’.

On Feb. 10, the President signed Legislation 402-16, which was to reduce the number of the Board of Commissioners for the Navajo Housing Authority (NHA) from eight to five and to increase the qualifications for the board.

Appointment nominations are currently awaiting final approval by the Naabik’iyati’ Committee before taking their new positions. New members will be required to have professional qualifications and credentials in the fields of housing, architecture, business, development and contracting.

“During the transition, NHA vows to support the incoming board as we continue to deliver on the important mission of providing affordable housing to the Navajo Nation,” said NHA CEO Aneva Yazzie.
